About Gordon

Gordon realized that there was a feeling of hopelessness and isolation among cancer patients after watching his mother battle cancer. He wanted to fight this problem by bringing doctors closer to their patients and patients closer to resources. He envisions a future where medical staff are no longer overburned by clerical work and can spend more time with patients, thereby improving health outcomes.

FAQs

What makes Apovo different from existing apps or websites?

We understand that your journey is overwhelming. Many non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and foundations were founded to help YOU. But patients are given a long list of resources to look through that's nearly impossible to filter based on relevancy.

Apovo is the only tool that is customized to your personal care journey. Resources are recommended based on your timeline. What you need when you are first diagnosed may be very different from what you need after surgery, after radiation, or after completing treatment.

What type of resources are on Apovo?

Most of our resources come from non-profits whose mission is to support your cancer journey. You can find free services such as cleaning, childcare, transportation, and legal assistance. You can find help from programs that can connect you to a fellow survivor who has been through your shoes or informational articles/webinars from medical providers on managing emotional side effects. We help you become aware of financial grant opportunities you may qualify for and local resources in your state.

These programs are not run by Apovo. We help connect you to existing resources that can make your care journey less stressful, so that you can focus on your health.

Where is the medical information on Apovo sourced from?

Apovo does not provide any type of medical recommendations. However, we provide patients with general information on cancer, treatments, and side effects sourced from verified organizations found below. Please ask your medical team for any questions you may have for your specific diagnosis and treatment plan.

Full list of medical information we source from:

American Cancer Society (ACS)
National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN)

Does Apovo make product recommendations?

We found that survivors find it helpful to recommend products such as mastectomy pillows, wigs, and skin care. We are currently experimenting with providing recommendations to products that may be helpful post-surgery, from the recommendations of breast cancer survivors themselves. At this time, there are no paid partnerships and no paid advertising on our app.

How can I be involved to help Apovo?

If you are a breast cancer patient who would like to trial and give feedback about our app, please join the waitlist above.

If you are a healthcare professional, nonprofit organization, or administrator, we would love to connect with you. Please email nicolewu@utexas.edu.
